Get Out Of Dodge
World class manufacturing is the ticket or get out of Dodge The Associated Press announced today that Chrysler will re-open seven assembly plants on June 29th. What is more appropriate here is that Fiat Group SpA will re-open seven Chrysler plants and top officials say world class manufacturing is the ticket or the new company can get out of dodge. I wondered what \"World Class Manufacturing\" was? So I looked it up. Surprisingly, this concept of everyone's happy, everything goes right, and we never, ever have any defects has been used by both Dell and Toyota. Well I used to have a Dell and I called India--A LOT. I've never owned a Toyota but there sure are a lot of recalls and technical service bulletins for Toyota vehicles if you do some research on Edmunds. So does World Class Manufacturing work or will Chrysler indeed have to get out of the so called \"dodge\" business? First off, I'm glad that seven plants will re-open in depressed economies like Windsor, Ontario and Mexico people! The plant in Detroit that makes the Dodge Viper has already re-opened and is right, right now making tons and tons of the impossible to own Viper because so many of us have an extra $100,000 lying around. Geez folks, I'm lost! Apparently Fiat Group SpA has never heard of Six Sigma so instead they've decided to utilize \"World Class Manufacturing.\" Aren't these two the same thing people? Maybe not, according to a Fiat spokesperson, world class manufacturing is less bureaucratic than Chrysler's old way. What does that mean? Does it mean Joe at the Ontario plant doesn't have to ask his supervisor if he can turn a knob BEFORE he does it? Does it mean if Sam at the Windsor plant sees a defect he can just let it slide dude, cause we're all cool and all that stuff? Does it mean reports and meetings will go to the wayside? If that's what world class manufacturing means, then I'm all for it. What does worry me, is not the plants in Ontario or Windsor or Mexico. The work ethic is stronger in those places. Once they do re-open the plants in Sterling Heights, Warren, St. Louis, and Toledo, then the worrying can begin. Why folks? One word, \"union.\" Tom in Toledo won't do much of anything cause he's on his required union break or it's \"not my job.\" Sarah in St. Louis is off on her twelve-week family medical leave act because she has Twitteritis. Will in Warren is late everyday because he just can't seem to get up on time. I can hardly wait for World Class Manufacturing to hit America people. I think it will be fun to see how far the Fiat Group gets with this innovative idea. Maybe the top person at Fiat needs to show up on the first day of re-openings and instead of being chummy and all, or less bureaucratic, put his or her foot down and say, \"do it our way or get out of Dodge!\"
